Was meint er?

What I like about my job as a HEMA Trainer is that I sometimes geht the chance to travel the world and meet people. This Weekend I will visit a country I would not have expected to travel to for teaching HEMA.
First Stop: Trainstation Salzburg, love our collection of Bikes. Look at my feet, they will make some distance today.

Met with other Trainers in Pub and enjoyed two happily sad Beer that where as bad as Austrian Beer but not as good as Franconian Beer, the second Beer being better than the First but still Not good. Thank you all for the nice evening which Endes with an suspicious Sabre Deal at the car, felt very welcoming. HEMA Family.

Nightime: After TURKISH Dinner and some sweet stuff we go for Beer, live music and talk about HEMA stuff, nonsense and serios Business. Now there is TURKISH Money in my hat. Umut Gümüş presented himself as Master of fun while diskussing middle Fingers. Poldi Horkel accompanied me Til the sweet Schnaps Ending. Today i regret. The only Thing that will help ist going for Sparring. 😆

Today: Sparring, King of the hill and Coaching with TURKISH fencers. The group leader are great and lovely people. Deniz Ince is a great fencing Partner, presenting good opportunities to learn. Little Bit of Food for Lunch, then continue. Now i am done for the day, my shoes are almost done forever. We will go for a turkish bath.

After a day of sparring that was over was too quick we follow HEMA people on the back of a pickup to the lokal Hamam, a traditional TURKISH bath. Hot water, Sauna, and a cleaning, massage ritual performed by elder TURKISH men restore my energy. Time to say goodbye, a bit sad to leave “Essgeschirr”, and travel to Istanbul where we arrive at 2 in the morning.

Making childish jokes with the polish about a bottle of ayran we have been carrying with us for long time. Burak Yarar ist a wonderful host, shows us his weaponry: Highlight ist an old Family Original Sabre and his audio studio downstaurs where I listen to selfcomposed music.

Burak takes me too the Istanbul Airport, watches me passing the security check. A last look back, our eyes meet, a short wave with my hand and off i go to leave Turkey. “sağol!” To all my TURKISH HEMA Friends and thank you for the honor of meeting and spending time with you.

Back in Austria, sitting in a train from Vienna to Salzburg. Some things seem strange to me, it is quiet and I ask myself wether it is the HEMA after event blues or the cultural differences between our country and Turkey… Think I will join our Monday longsword training, then home to wife and children.

Finally I am home. My journey to Turkey finds an end. Having tea and Baklava with my wife, lighting a candle and telling each other stories about what happened. Had a good time, can recommend to visit the Turkish HEMA community, still good to be back.
